Mint Condition

Hi Reader,
This past spring, I helped some dear friends ready their yard for new landscaping. Among some plants they no longer wanted was a huge rootball of mint. I love mint. The bright scent. The shiny green leaves. The hardiness. I wanted to see if it would grow with me on the road, so they sent me off with a huge, generous pail of it.

Over the summer, I placed it outside with plenty of sunlight, regular watering, and drainage. But it slowly began to die off. The leaves turned brown. The stems wilted. Pretty soon, there was nothing left but the roots. I transplanted what remained into smaller pots, and just let it sit on a table in my trailer. It looked pretty sad next to my other plants, which have thrived and given me a lot of indoor greenery to enjoy. Alas, I added mint to the list of plants that I could not grow nomadically.

But lo! Several weeks later, tiny mint spouts appeared! Sitting quietly, absorbing sunlight through the window, and doing what mint does, it began to regrow on its own. I was very pleasantly amazed, and in awe.

Sometimes when you try really hard, things work out really well.
Sometimes when you try really hard, things don't work out well at all.
Other times when you don't try, catastrophe strikes.
And other times when you don't try, things work out just fine.

Life offers zero guarantees. But by simply putting yourself out there, living your life the best you can, losing a few, winning a few, and staying on your path, you and I can be like mint...Always alive and growing, even when it doesn't seem like it.

Peace,
Tommy
